Your Invitation to the Carntaigh Balls in Honor of Caledon's 5th Anniversary

Mardi Gras Parade in New Toulouse!

To: The Ladies and Gentlemen of New Toulouse, and of all the Steamlands!

Mardi Gras is but a few weeks away and the Estate of New Toulouse will be having our Third Annual Mardi Gras celebrations from Sunday, March 6, 2011 through Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Our actual Mardi Gras Parade is on Sunday, March 6 from 11:00am - 1:00pm SLT. I invite all of you, Taloosters and residents from other lands, to participate in our parade!

Like New Orleans, New Toulouse has "Krewes", or teams, that work together to create floats and that ride them together during the parade. A Krewe can be anywhere from two to five people. Krewe members toss items to the parade audience and shout to them, as well as to the Krewes on other floats. You are welcome to create, and name, your own Krewe, or if you are a New Toulouse resident, you may join one of our existing Krewes. As of this writing, these are the confirmed Krewes and their members:

Vieux Krewe - Abilgail Raymaker, Amber Palowakski - welcomes mor…

Planning Something for Caledon's 5th Annversary?

Dear Residents of Caledon,

Caledon's 5th Anniversary, Saturday, February 26, is approaching! Several people are planning events and activities for it, and I am making an effort to document the events on an Anniversary Schedule that residents can use to stay informed about the the celebrations. I will also be publicizing this schedule in various venues to ensure that other Steamlanders and Second Life residents know about the Caledon events.

If you have something planned for the Anniversary, please let me know and I will add it to the schedule. Here is the very rough draft of the schedule as it exists today, February 16.

All four days - The Caledon Rothesay Fair in Honor of Caledon's 5th Anniversary. The Fairgrounds Promenades are specific times for residents to gather, talk with Fair Merchants, peruse the merchandise and participate in other activities. The Silent Auction proceeds will all go to Caledon Oxbridge.

An Invitation to New Toulouse Venetian Night

White swan of cities, slumbering in thy nest
So wonderfully built among the reeds
Of the lagoon, that fences thee and feeds,
As sayeth thy old historian and thy guest!
White water-lily, cradled and caressed
By ocean streams, and from the silt and weeds
Lifting thy golden filaments and seeds.
Thy sun-illumined spires, thy crown and crest!
White phantom city, whose untrodden streets
Are rivers, and whose pavements are the shifting
Shadows of palaces and strips of sky;
I wait to see thee vanish like the fleets
Seen in mirage, or towers of cloud uplifting
In air their unsubstantial masonry.

Ladies and Gentleman of the Steamlands, the Residents of New Toulouse cordially invite you to "Venetian Night", a day-long night of light, water, beauty and adventure on Saturday, February 5, 2011.

All day on February 5, night will fall and the water will rise on New Toulouse. The streets will become canals lit by the flames of candles and lanterns. We invite you to bring your boats and to e…

Generation X with Gabrielle: The 1993 Mix Tapes

It's the first Thursday of the month and that means it's time for Gen X with Gabi, my long-running show of music from the 1980s and 1990s when Generation X ruled Pop Culture!

This month's show is a part of the New Toulouse Fête des Lumières (Festival of Lights), which is our community's week long celebration centered on Imbolc. Most Americans have no idea what Imbolc means, but if you ask them to define Groundhog's Day, they can give you the answer immediately! The reality is that Imbolc and Groundhog's Day have the same ancient roots. February 2 is the half way point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, and Summer and Autumn Down Under.

The now iconic movie "Groundhog Day", starring Bill Murray, is a Generation X classic, and was released in 1993. There will be a nod to the movie during Gen X tonight, however tonight's program will about be an 18 year rewind of music, instead of a 24 hour rewind of a single day.

I was…
