Marriage Equality Bash at The Bashful Peacock

Last night at The Bashful Peacock, Professor Rudolfo Woodget and I threw a last minute, impromptu celebration in honor of the US Supreme Court rulings yesterday that enable future progress regarding marriage equality in the United States of America.

For those of you who are not familiar with The Bashful Peacock, it is Caledon’s gathering place for ladies and gentlemen who prefer the company of ladies and gentlemen, respectively, and it has been in operation for almost 6 years. I have had the honor to play there many, many times over the years and Radio Riel used to run live broadcasts there on a regular basis.

Perhaps it was because we are just past Midsummer Night and a Super Moon, or perhaps it was just the sheer joy of what yesterday's rulings mean, but the crowd last night at The Peacock was alight with love and happiness!

I will be honest and say that it has been months, if not years, since I have felt that much positive emotion from the crowd at an event. It reminded me of why I started playing music and hosting events in Second Life in the first place 7 years ago.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the party last night! And thank you to all of the well-wishers who were tuned in to the music and/or who were cheering us on from the Caledon group chat.

Thank you to Mr. David Cooper who very kindly took pictures of the event and some of which I feature here.

I will say here what I said on air last night, that yesterday's rulings were about the striking down of wildly discriminatory laws that had been devised to single out a group a people and deprive them of their rights. The removal of these laws from the books keeps doors open for progress in regards to Marriage Equality. We still have many battles ahead, but yesterday was a double-win that moves us closer to winning the war.

In the end, love always wins.
