St John Tea Transcripts - 12/03/2014

[18:08] Gabrielle Riel declares tea officially started!

[18:08] Gabrielle Riel: I need this tea to be somewhat “short and sweet”, no longer than 45 min, but I don’t think that will be a problem. Our topics are very focused tonight.

[18:08] Gabrielle Riel: (and there is only one person here!)

[18:08] Holocluck Henly nods

[18:08] Gabrielle Riel: Everything I am covering tonight has to do with the holidays. Our topics in order are: the St John Christmas Ball, Hanukkah in St John, the St John community Christmas tree and decorating the estate for the holidays.

[18:09] Gabrielle Riel: Please hold your questions until I reach the end of each topic and then ask for questions. It’s possible that I have the answer to your question later in the topic and by the time we get to the end of the topic, there will be fewer questions.

[18:09] Holocluck Henly nods

[18:09] Gabrielle Riel: ready? Bon! On y va!

[18:09] Gabrielle Riel: The first topic is the St John Christmas Ball.

[18:10] Gabrielle Riel: This is really just an FYI, letting you all know that our Christmas Ball will be on Saturday, December 13 from 6-7:30pm SLT.

[18:10] Gabrielle Riel: Hi Miss Raven!

[18:10] Gabrielle Riel: This is the day and time of our usually scheduled monthly Ball, so I am just making this one a Christmas Ball.

[18:11] Gabrielle Riel: As Christmas approaches, the Steamlands calendar becomes crammed with everyone and their brother having a Christmas dance. It becomes unmanageable and flat out annoying, with nothing special to differentiate the events.

[18:11] Holocluck Henly: Hello :)

[18:11] Gabrielle Riel: By having ours on the 13th, we’ll stay out of the “But *I* want to have a Christmas event!” frenzy. Ours will also be unique in music and style, and it will likely be the one that everyone remembers.

[18:12] Gabrielle Riel: It will be classical music and formal attire, with a recommendation on Victorian and Edwardian style. Recommendation. Not a requirement.

[18:12] Gabrielle Riel: That’s basically all I have to say about our Ball. I just wanted to let you know when it will be. Does anyone have any questions about the Christmas Ball?

[18:12] Holocluck Henly: none

[18:12] Ravenstask Bayn: no

[18:12] Holocluck Henly whispers: Miz Tilda is coming online

[18:12] Gabrielle Riel: I see Emma coming over.

[18:13] Gabrielle Riel: Ok! Moving on to topic 2 - Hanukkah in St John.

[18:13] Gabrielle Riel: Hey Emma :-)

[18:13] Holocluck Henly: Hello Miss Emma

[18:13] Emmanuelle Huntress: Bonjour y'all.

[18:13] Gabrielle Riel: This is something that I have never done before, but this year we are going to recognize Hanukkah by following the typical tradition of lighting a menorah each day. The menorah will be here in the Edison Ballroom.

[18:13] Ravenstask Bayn: bonjour

[18:14] Holocluck Henly: ok

[18:14] Gabrielle Riel: From the evening of Tuesday, December 16 until the evening of Wednesday, December 24, someone (me, Emma, CC or volunteers) will light the candles each night at 6pm SLT.

[18:14] Gabrielle Riel: I need volunteers for this! If you would like to be the person who lights the candles on a specific night, please let me know!

[18:14] Holocluck Henly: Welcome Miss Kylee

[18:14] Gabrielle Riel: If you don’t the ritual of the lighting but would still like to light candles, have no fear! I will provide a notecard with all of the information that you will need in order to follow the process. The notecard will contain all the details of how we are going to handle the lighting. I don’t want to get into the gory details tonight.

[18:15] Kylee Gracemount: Thank You.

[18:15] Gabrielle Riel: Hello Miss Kylee :-)

[18:15] Gabrielle Riel: So, does anyone have any basic questions about Hanukkah in St John? I will be addressing the specifics very soon in a blog post and notecard.

[18:15] Holocluck Henly: I have my own opinions

[18:16] Gabrielle Riel: And that's fine.

[18:16] Gabrielle Riel: Moving on now to our 3rd topic: the St John Christmas Tree.

[18:16] Holocluck Henly: Just one thing: if you want to have something for decoration and the instructions are to light them in the right direction that's fine

[18:17] Holocluck Henly: But to tell people to say blessings? a bit offensive and disrespectful to Jews.

[18:17] Gabrielle Riel: It's meant to be more than decoration. And it's meant to be lighted properly. That's basically it.

[18:17] Holocluck Henly: if theyre lit in the right order than that's fine

[18:18] Gabrielle Riel: If you have looked in Duchess Square, you will see that there is a pine tree in one of the corners. That tree is just a placeholder for now.

[18:19] Gabrielle Riel: I am going to carve a little parcel around that tree and deed it to the Riel Estates Residents group. I will then put up an empty Christmas tree. I’ll be doing this in the next few days.

[18:19] Holocluck Henly: Hello Miz Tilda

[18:19] Gabrielle Riel: I welcome all residents to come decorate the tree. Just make sure that you are wearing your Riel Estates Residents tag when you place your ornament(s). You can put as many ornaments on as you like.

[18:19] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): Howdy Doc and all

[18:19] Gabrielle Riel: Hi Miss Tilda!

[18:19] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): sorry to be late

[18:20] Gabrielle Riel: If you are a content creator, or have some kind of gift you can give, put your gift in a box, and then bring it to the tree and place it underneath. Again, make sure you are placing it with your Riel Estates Residents tag activated. You should set your gift up with a giver script that gives the gift to anyone who clicks on the box. If you need a basic giver script, I can give you one.

[18:21] Gabrielle Riel: Are there any questions on the St John Christmas tree?

[18:21] Ravenstask Bayn: none

[18:21] Gabrielle Riel: Summary: everyone is welcome to decorate it or place gifts under it.

[18:21] Gabrielle Riel: Ok - final topic - decorating the estate for the holidays!

[18:22] Gabrielle Riel: I need help with this. I am in the middle of finals week and I simply do not have the time to handle it on my own.

[18:23] Gabrielle Riel: What I am going to do is allot a specific number of prims in each of the St John sims on public land for holiday decorations. I will publish those prim allotments so everyone knows what the limits are.

[18:23] Emmanuelle Huntress: sounds like a job for my low prim tacky lights...

[18:23] Gabrielle Riel: (in a few minutes)

[18:23] Gabrielle Riel gives Emma "the look"

[18:23] Gabrielle Riel: When I say holiday decorations, what exactly do I mean?

[18:23] Emmanuelle Huntress: Griswolds?

[18:24] Gabrielle Riel: Ahh, that would be a "no"

[18:24] Holocluck Henly: it's louisiana 1914. candles?

[18:24] Gabrielle Riel: I love that movie. :-)

[18:24] Gabrielle Riel: (answer forthcoming re: 1

[18:24] Gabrielle Riel: Well, I am not 100% sure myself! I am open to suggestions from residents, although if you have a suggestion and I take you up on it, you need to be prepared to make that suggestion happen.

[18:24] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): I thought it was 1820's

[18:24] Emmanuelle Huntress: 1920s

[18:25] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): I mean 1920's

[18:25] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): yep typo :P

[18:25] Gabrielle Riel: Nope - we are 1914

[18:25] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): oh, ok

[18:25] Gabrielle Riel: 100 years ago exactly

[18:25] Holocluck Henly: 1900-1930 but spot on 1914

[18:25] Gabrielle Riel: But without WWI

[18:25] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): lol

[18:25] Gabrielle Riel: Next year will be 1915

[18:25] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): ok I get it now

[18:25] Holocluck Henly: hence my non-speakeasy speakeasy

[18:25] Gabrielle Riel: I am going to repeat 2 things I said:

[18:26] Gabrielle Riel: When I say holiday decorations, what exactly do I mean?

[18:26] Gabrielle Riel: Well, I am not 100% sure myself! I am open to suggestions from residents, although if you have a suggestion and I take you up on it, you need to be prepared to make that suggestion happen.

[18:26] Gabrielle Riel: I do have some ideas and parameters, so I will share those with you now.

[18:26] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): I think best to look at some traditional Nola decorations they use a lot of greenery

[18:26] Gabrielle Riel: I want to keep things somewhat historically accurate in the Bayou, Parish and Lake sims. I would like to see garlands of greens and bows hung along all of the walls around the squares, the cemetery and back in our little Garden District.

[18:26] Holocluck Henly: my first thought is something around the lantern poles but that would involve replacing all of them so forget that

[18:27] Gabrielle Riel: I would like to see red bows, and perhaps greens hung on or around every lamp post.

[18:27] Holocluck Henly nods

[18:27] Gabrielle Riel: There WERE electric Christmas lights in New Orleans 100 years ago. I have seen the pictures. I would be open to putting some lights up.

[18:27] Holocluck Henly: mesh 1LI ones

[18:27] Gabrielle Riel: The electric xmas lights were along the streets

[18:28] Holocluck Henly: mesh 1LI ones = bows

[18:28] Gabrielle Riel: I do not know how common they were in homes.

[18:28] Gabrielle Riel: But still, I'd prefer to stick to greenery and use lights thoughtfully.

[18:28] Holocluck Henly: the cost of electricity... people still used gas lighting and stoves

[18:28] Gabrielle Riel: I will take care of decorating the Edison Ballroom and Duchess Square. I will need volunteers for everywhere else.

[18:29] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): I volunteer

[18:29] Gabrielle Riel: I need people to volunteer to assist. I need those people to be able to look at the estate, see what it needs and then come to me and tell me exactly what you want to do. “Hey Miz Gabi, I’d like to hang the bows on all the street lamps.”

[18:29] Holocluck Henly: something was not on the agenda

[18:29] Gabrielle Riel: I need you to be proactive. See what we need and then some tell me you can help with it. I do not have time to break down every little decorating task in town and then run around assigning people to the tasks.

[18:29] Gabrielle Riel: *come tell me

[18:30] Gabrielle Riel: If you love to decorate don’t worry about “hogging” all the decorating tasks. I will let you do as much as you want. I don’t care if only one or two people end up decorating the whole estate. I just want it DONE.

[18:30] Holocluck Henly: Miz Tilda, Maddy mae is good with decorating. contact her

[18:30] Holocluck Henly: Miz Gabby, St John Woods and winter. Snow. when will that start?

[18:30] Gabrielle Riel: When you come to me with an idea, if you have specific decorations in mind and you have them in your inventory, I want you to show me the decorations before you start placing them. I will need to approve decorations that I have not seen.

[18:30] Gabrielle Riel: I'll discuss that after this topic. Hold questions please.

[18:30] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): well, I think I'm pretty good at it myself thanks Doc, but I will be taking care of Bayou, not the city.

[18:31] Gabrielle Riel: I have tons and tons and tons of holiday decorations in my inventory. I will be happy to rez a bunch of whatever and then set them so you can move them into place. This way you can decorate and it won’t cost you a cent. I do NOT expect you to go out and buy decorations. If you want to buy them, fine, but I won’t require it.

[18:31] Gabrielle Riel: When can we start decorating? As of right now. I will start accepting volunteers and their tasks immediately.

[18:31] Gabrielle Riel: Miz Tilda has volunteered. She can decorate all of Bayou to the prim limits. :-)
[18:32] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): thanks :)

[18:32] Gabrielle Riel: There is no rush, so if you’d like to decorate but you have more time next week, that’s fine, deal with it next week. Just keep in mind that it’s first come first served and some passionate decorator might have already splashed stuff all over the estate.

[18:32] Gabrielle Riel: If I were a resident? That passionate decorator would be me. :-)

[18:33] Emmanuelle Huntress: She ain't kidding.

[18:33] Gabrielle Riel grins

[18:33] Gabrielle Riel: To summarize: I need volunteers to decorate. I need them to be proactive and come to me and tell me what they will decorate. They can use their own decorations or mine. They can start right away.

[18:33] Gabrielle Riel: If you volunteer to decorate, I will need to add you to the Riel Estates land group. There will be a special group role for the decorators. Make sure you have a group space available.

[18:34] Gabrielle Riel: As for prims, this is what I am thinking: 500 prims for St John Parish. Keep in mind that this will include the Christmas tree, its ornaments and gifts.

[18:34] Gabrielle Riel: 50 prims for Lake St John. Sorry, it’s a homestead and has no prims.

[18:35] Gabrielle Riel: 250 prims for Bayou. What can you really do for Christmas decorations in Bayou? I don’t expect we’ll need many prims.

[18:35] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): well I will tell you later what we can do there

[18:35] Gabrielle Riel: Tilda can be as creative as she wants, just let me know your plans in advance.

[18:35] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): I sure will, thank you.

[18:37] Gabrielle Riel: 250 - 400 prims for St John Woods. This sim should have very rustic (even Pagan) decorations. It’s all about Yule in SJW, not Christmas. Because of that, I am not sure what decorations would work or how many prims they will take.

[18:37] Gabrielle Riel: In SJW, do not worry about the tree circle. I am going to do that all up in Pagan style myself.

[18:37] Gabrielle Riel: I’ve never handled sim decorating like this before. Ever. I have no idea if it will even work. Folks might not care about decorating. I really do not know.

[18:37] Holocluck Henly: what did you do last year?

[18:37] Gabrielle Riel: Nothing

[18:38] Gabrielle Riel: I was building St John Parish

[18:38] Emmanuelle Huntress: we weren't here

[18:38] Holocluck Henly: true.

[18:38] Holocluck Henly: new years eve would be the anniversary just about

[18:38] Gabrielle Riel: The exact anniversary

[18:38] Gabrielle Riel: Because this will be a bit of a fly by the seat of our pants project, feel free to ask me questions as we go along. I am sure we’ll stumble across things I have not even thought of as we go.

[18:38] Holocluck Henly: st john woods was.

[18:38] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): well if it ends up that no one wants to decorate town, just let me know and I'll try to fix it up

[18:38] Gabrielle Riel: I will!

[18:38] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): okies

[18:39] Gabrielle Riel: When in doubt, just ask me. If I am not online, send me an email ( I check email all the time, so I’ll have an answer for you as soon as humanly possible for me.

[18:39] Holocluck Henly: even there in the woods just bows on the lights would be nice

[18:39] Gabrielle Riel: Don’t just depend on me. If we have a lot of volunteers, then you guys are going to have to work together. Check in with each other. Communicate! You guys are capable of dividing tasks yourselves if necessary.

[18:40] Gabrielle Riel: Whew! So…..

[18:40] Gabrielle Riel: Any questions about decorating the estate for the holidays? If not I will talk about snow schedule before we adjourn.

[18:40] Ravenstask Bayn: yes

[18:41] Gabrielle Riel: Keep in mind I will post these transcripts, so you can read back if you need to.

[18:41] Gabrielle Riel: What's your question Miss Raven?

[18:41] Ravenstask Bayn: What about a manger scene on my property?  Any problems?

[18:41] Gabrielle Riel: Nope

[18:41] Gabrielle Riel: New Orleans in 1914 was primarily Christian

[18:42] Holocluck Henly: just keep in mind the full bright rules of the estate.

[18:42] Holocluck Henly: if it's outdoors

[18:42] Gabrielle Riel: There was a small, but very strong and influential Jewish community too - in NOLA 1914

[18:42] Gabrielle Riel: But NOLA is all about churches

[18:42] Holocluck Henly: and saints

[18:43] Gabrielle Riel: The founding French and Spanish were Catholic

[18:43] Gabrielle Riel: And that vibe remains to an extent

[18:44] Gabrielle Riel: So nativity scenes are fine, just like Doc said, no full bright

[18:44] Ravenstask Bayn: I know that manger scenes are a tradition in New Orleans    :)

[18:44] Gabrielle Riel: Yep. It's spot on historically.

[18:44] Holocluck Henly: yup

[18:44] Emmanuelle Huntress: No Chernobyl lights

[18:44] Holocluck Henly: didn't understand them but many on the lawns

[18:45] Gabrielle Riel: That sounds like the East Side of Metro Detroit :-)

[18:45] Gabrielle Riel: The West Side is all Stars of David

[18:45] Holocluck Henly: espI was a little kid at the time LOL I didnt know much about other religions incl Christians

[18:45] Gabrielle Riel: And Dearborn is Ramadan :-)

[18:45] Gabrielle Riel: Ok - snow schedule

[18:46] Gabrielle Riel: Snow has started creeping down the hill in St John Woods

[18:46] Gabrielle Riel: There were flurries on the hill last weekend

[18:47] Gabrielle Riel: There will be a steady progression over the next few days - this weekend St John Woods will have a nice blizzard

[18:47] Gabrielle Riel: I haven't rushed the snow because it snowed so damn early here in RL

[18:47] Holocluck Henly: 40s tonight here. We haven't seen snow yet

[18:47] Gabrielle Riel: And I still haven't gotten over the trauma of last winter

[18:47] Holocluck Henly: well it's like that here in NYC the past 10 yrs :(

[18:47] Gabrielle Riel: I am NOT ready for the snow

[18:48] Gabrielle Riel: Now, as for the NOLA sims

[18:48] Gabrielle Riel: They will all have a freak snow storm on Dec 24

[18:48] Gabrielle Riel: And it will be snowy in them for the 25 and 26. Then it will melt.

[18:49] Emmanuelle Huntress: Guess I better buy some chains for the Bearcat

[18:49] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): the gators will love that :)

[18:49] Gabrielle Riel: Heavy snow will remain in St John Woods until March 1, then the snow will melt slowly over a 3 week period

[18:49] Holocluck Henly: I think I was four when we had that in NOLA

[18:49] Gabrielle Riel: St John Woods will be early Spring green by March 21. The first official day of Spring.

[18:50] Holocluck Henly: :)

[18:50] Gabrielle Riel: So SJW will be totally blanketed for 3 months

[18:50] Holocluck Henly swoons

[18:50] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): lol

[18:50] Gabrielle Riel: See, I was totally blanketed for FOUR months in RL last year

[18:50] Holocluck Henly: I cant get a decent winter here anymore. I get it in SL

[18:50] Gabrielle Riel: I now know why old people move to Florida

[18:51] Ravenstask Bayn: You got 98 inches, we got 186

[18:51] Emmanuelle Huntress: That's why I endure my 90/90 summers.

[18:51] Gabrielle Riel: We broke our snowfall record. Last year was the most snow in my area since they started keeping records in the mid 19th century.

[18:52] Gabrielle Riel: HA! That's like UP snow.

[18:52] Holocluck Henly: If anyone is interested, I have deck chairs and a fire outside by my wagon. I'm located next to the infohub gazebo in St John Woods

[18:52] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): what now marshmallows ?

[18:52] Holocluck Henly: I believe anyone can stoke the fire, eat marshmallows etx

[18:52] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): sorry that came out wrong. Doc, no marshmallows to roast?

[18:52] Holocluck Henly: yet click it gives you a stick

[18:52] Gabrielle Riel: Excellent!

[18:52] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): oh nice

[18:53] Holocluck Henly: or a sausage

[18:53] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): and cocoa?

[18:53] Holocluck Henly: I'm not always there so lots of opportunity for people to enjoy

[18:53] Holocluck Henly: not yet. I have hopes after getting into the gatcha arcade

[18:53] Gabrielle Riel: Ok - I have basically covered all that I need to cover. Any final questions?

[18:54] Holocluck Henly: however note I have a nice variety of teas in my Christmas tree tea set in Maison Bleu. and cupcakes

[18:54] Holocluck Henly: Shameless Plug

[18:54] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): :P

[18:54] Gabrielle Riel: Thank heavens! We made it through! I officially call this meeting adjourned!

[18:54] Holocluck Henly: This Saturday night is Swing Moon

[18:54] Gabrielle Riel: yes! Do please come out if you can!

[18:55] Holocluck Henly: 6pm SLT Saturday :)

[18:55] 'Tilda Brown (izabel.jonstone): Thanks Miz Gabrielle.
